1 Pet. 2:17                            I LOVE THY KINGDOM, LORD            CHU-05-07

SUBJECT:  The Church.
TITLE:  I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord.
PROPOSITION:  To look at our love for the kingdom of God.
OBJECTIVE:  To show how we should love it.

INTRODUCTION:
1. Read the text.
2. Regarding the text.
(1) The kingdom of Christ is the church of Christ.
        A. Jesus made this clear (Mt. 16:13-17).
        B. Paul made this clear (Col. 1:13).
(2) Because it is the church we are to love it because it is our brotherhood.
        A. We show that we are Christ’s disciples if we show our love for each other
(Jno. 13:34, 35).
        B. We cannot love God if we do not love one another (1 Jno. 4:20,21).
(3) Let us look at our love for the kingdom of Christ.

DISCUSSION:  I LOVE THY KINGDOM, LORD BECAUSE—
I. IT IS THE HOUSE OF HIS ABODE.
1. Christ dwells in the church today, as does the Father and the Spirit.
        (1) There is much discussion over whether he dwells literally in our bodies or
figuratively through the word, but the fact is, he does dwell in the church (1 Cor. 6:
19,20; Eph. 2:22).
        (2) However, he dwells, he does indeed dwell in the church (2 Cor. 6:13-17).
2. The church was saved by the redeemer’s precious blood.
        (1) The church was purchased by Christ’s blood (Acts 20:28).
        (2) We were not redeemed with corruptible things (1 Pet. 1:18,19).
3. We love the church O God.
        (1) Her walls before him stand (Eph. 6:10-17).
        (2) She is as dear to God as the apple of his eye (Psa. 17:8).
        (3) She is like the graven on his hand.

II. FOR HER OUR TEARS FALL AND OUR PRAYERS RISE.
1. We weep and pray for her because of all the problems facing her.
        (1) We have people trying to tear down the church from the outside (2 Cor.
11:26).
        (2) We also have false teachers trying to tear the church down from the
inside (Rom. 16:17,18).
2. We will care and toil for her until the end.
        (1) There remains a rest for the people of God (Heb. 4:9-11).
        (2) However, until that time comes we will work (2 Tim. 4:6-8).
3. She is beyond our highest joy.
        (1) We prize her heavenly ways (Phil. 3:13,14).
        (2) Her sweet communion and solomn vows (1 Cor. 11:28).
        (3) Her hymns of love and praise (Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16).

III. JESUS IS OUR FRIEND DIVINE.
1. He is our savior and our king (Phil. 3:20; 1 Tim. 6:15).
2. He shall bring great spiritual deliverance (Col. 1:13).
3. Just as truth will last Zion will be given. (1 Cor. 15:24).
4. The brightest glories earth can yield cannot compare to the bliss of heaven.

CONCLUSION:
SUMMARY:  We have seen that we should love the kingdom because—
        1. It is Christ’s Abode.
        2. Our tears shall fall for her and our prayers shall ascend.
        3. Jesus is our friend devine.
APPEAL:  Let us love the kingdom as we should.
"Sanctify them through thy truth, they word is truth" (Jno. 17:17)
