Psalm 51:7                     JESUS PAID IT ALL                                     SAL-11-07
SUBJECT:  Salvation.
TITLE:  Jesus Paid It All.
PROPOSITION:  To look at what Jesus paid and what the cost was.
OBJECTIVE:  So we can know how much he loved us.
INTRODUCTION:
1. Read the text.
2. Regarding the text.
(1) David has acknowledged the fact that he has sinned in regards to Bethsheba and
her husband, Uriah the Hittite.
        A. He states that he was born and conceived into a world of iniquity.
                a. Some take this as meaning that children are born sinners, and the NIV
backs that interpretation up:  “Look I was a sinner from birth, a sinner from the
moment my mother conceived me.”
                b. Some think that David was using metaphorical language here, but the
NIV is quite explicit here.
                c. Children are not born sinners (Mk. 10:14).
        B. David has repented for his sins and this is his prayer to God showing his
repentance (Psa. 51:6-10).
(2) Here David actually is giving prophecy of the time when sins will be washed
away.
        A. Sins, under the first testament, were cleansed by the blood (Heb. 9:15).
        B. David is looking forward to the time when his sins will be washed away
(Heb. 10:1-4).
(3) Let us look at our lesson today and see what it has in store for us.

DISCUSSION:  IN OUR LESSON LET US NOTICE THAT—
I. WE HEAR THE SAVIOR SAY TO US.
1. He tells us that our strength indeed is small.
        (1) Paul says that when we were yet without strength Christ died for us
(Rom. 5:6).
        (2) We are unable to stand against sin without God on our side (1 Cor. 10:
12,13).
                A. We can do all things with Christ (Phil. 4:13).
                B. However we can do nothing without Christ (Jno. 15:1-6).
                C. We have no hope without Christ (Eph. 2:12).
2. We are children of weakness, but we need to watch and pray.
        (1) This refers to the child of God.
                A. We are to watch for the second coming (Mt. 25:13).
                B. We are to pray for forgiveness of our sins (Mt. 6:12).
                C. We are to pray that others will come to Christ (1 Jno. 5:16).
        (2) Though the flesh is weak, our spirit is to be strong (Mt. 26:41).
3. We are to find everything we need in Christ.
        (1) We do that by studying his word (2 Tim. 2:15).
                A. His word gives us all things pertaining to life and Godliness (2 Pet. 1:
3).
                B. He word makes us complete and thoroughly furnishes us (2 Tim. 3:
17).
        (2) Most people look in all the wrong places (Mt. 7:13,14).
                A. Some look to the wisdom of the world (1 Cor. 1:19-21).
                B. Some look to themselves for answers (Jer. 10:23).
                C. We all need to look to Christ (Heb. 12:2).
II. WE HAVE NOTHING GOOD TO OFFER CHRIST.
1. We are saved by God’s grace (Eph. 2:8,9).
        (1) This does not mean that we are saved by grace alone (Jas. 2:24,26).
        (2) This does mean that God has given us an opportunity to come to him and
without that opportunity we would be lost (Rom. 6:17).
2. Salvation is free and cannot be bought (Rom. 6:23).
3. We must wash ourselves in the blood of the lamb (Rev. 7:14).
III. WHEN WE STAND BEFORE THE THRONE.
1. We shall all appear before the throne (2 Cor. 5:10).
        (1) Every tongue shall confess (Rom. 14:10-12).
        (2)  Every eye shall see him (Rev. 1:7).
2. We shall stand in him complete.
        (1) If we live as he commands we will be complete and will have salvation (1
Jno. 5:13).
        (2) We won’t have to wonder where we will spend eternity (Mt. 25:34).
CONCLUSION:
SUMMARY:  We have seen that—
        1. The savior tells us that our strength indeed is small, that we are to watch
and pray and find in him our all in all.
        2. Nothing good have we that would buy his grace, we will wash our
garments white in the blood of the lamb.
        3. When before the throne, we will stand in him complete, Jesus died our
souls to save and our lips shall still repeat.
APPEAL:  Jesus paid it all, All to him I owe; Sin had left a crimson stain, he
washed it white as snow.

Heb. 12:14                         TAKE TIME TO BE HOLY                         CHL-01-07
SUBJECT: Christian living.
TITLE:  Take Time To Be Holy.
PROPOSITION:  To look at taking time to be holy.
OBJECTIVE:  To show what is entailed in being holy.
INTRODUCTION:
1. Read the text.
2. Regarding the text.
(1) We often wonder what all is entailed in being holy.
        A. We hear preachers speak of being holy.
        B. We read where we are to be holy (1 Pet. 1:16).
        C. We often don’t realize what all is involved in being holy.
(2) What is “holy” anyway?
        A. Comes from the word “agioi” and means:  “separate from common
condition and use; dedicated…hallowed…pure, righteous…” (The Analytical
Lexicon to the Greek New Testament, p.50).
        B. This shows us that we are to be separated from the world (Jas. 1:27).
        C. We are to be dedicated, hallowed, pure and righteous (1 Pet. 3:12).
(3) Now let us look at our lesson.

DISCUSSION:  TAKE TIME TO BE HOLY—
I. SPEAK OFT WITH THY LORD.
1. We cannot pray to Christ because we pray through Christ to the Father.
        (1) We are to ask the Father in the name of or by the authority of Christ (Jno.
16:23).
        (2) In the name of does not mean “in Jesus’ name.” (Acts 2:38—Mt. 28:
19,20).
        (3) Should we say “In Christ’s Name we pray”?  Certainly because we are
praying by his authority and we are letting the Father know whose authority we are
coming to him in.
2. The Father is our Lord and we are to pray to him often.
        (1) Never let a day go by that we don’t pray (1 Thess. 5:17).
        (2) We ought always to pray and never to faint (Lk. 18:1).
        (3) Prayer is how we communicate with God.
3. We are to abide in him always (Jno. 15:1-6).
4. We are to feed on his word (2 Tim. 2:15; 3:15; Col. 4:16; 1 Tim. 4:13).

II. MAKE FRIENDS OF GOD’S CHILDREN.
1. We are to be united together.
        (1) This unity must be based upon God’s word (Jno. 17:20,21)
        (2) Division in the church is condemned (1 Cor. 1:10).
        (3) Some want unity at any cost, but we can’t have that.
        (4) Those who cause divisions by transgressing God’s word are the ones
who are at fault (Rom. 16:17; Prov. 6:16-19).
2. We are to help those who are weak.
        (1) Those who have helped the weak will be allowed into heaven (Mt. 25:34-
40).
        (2) We are to help those who are spiritually weak (Gal. 6:1,2).
III. FORGETTING IN NOTHING, HIS BLESSINGS TO SEEK.
1. Christ’s blessings are the most important blessings there are because they are
spiritual (Eph. 1:3).
        (1) God gives physical and material blessings to all (Mt. 5:44-47).
        (2) God will take care of us materially, but we must seek first the kingdom of
God (Mt. 6:31-33).
2. Far too many people live their lives only for material blessings.
        (1) They trust in money (1 Tim. 6:9,10).
        (2) Those blessings are temporal and can be taken away (Mt. 6:19,20).
3. We need to keep our eye on the goal; heaven itself (Phil. 3:13,14).
CONCLUSION:
SUMMARY:  We have seen that we are to take time to be holy by—
        1. Speaking oft with the Lord, abiding in Jesus and feeding on his word.
        2. Making friends of God’s children, helping those who are weak.
        3. Forgetting in nothing, his blessings to seek.
APPEAL:  Are you taking time to be holy.
"Sanctify them through thy truth, thy word is truth" (Jno. 17:17)
