Heb. 4:9                       IS IT FOR ME, DEAR SAVIOR?                      HEA-02-07

SUBJECT:  Heaven.
TITLE:  Is It For Me, Dear Savior?
PROPOSITION:  To look at the words of this song and what the Bible says about
heaven.
OBJECTIVE:  So we can see that heaven is a place for us.

INTRODUCTION:
1. Read the text.
2. Regarding the text.
       (1) We go on with our daily lives every day and we very seldom think about
heaven.
               A. Jesus left this earth to prepare a place in heaven for those who follow
him (Jno. 14:1,2).
               B. Heaven should be the goal that we for which we strive (Phil. 3:13,14).
       (2) We should not allow the cares of this world to cloud our minds (Mt. 4:
18,19).
               A. We should think of heaven often.
               B.  We would be so much happier if we looked unto heaven on a daily
basis.
       (3) If we do this we will know that heaven is well worth all the trials on this
earth.

DISCUSSION:  IN OUR STUDY LET US NOTICE—
  I. THAT WE ARE WORTHY OF THE REST THAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR
US.
       1. Are we worthy of the rest that Christ has gone to prepare for us?
               (1) Many people say that we aren’t worthy (Isa. 64:6).
                       A. They don’t read the context surrounding that verse.
                               a. This is Isaiah’s prayer to God that he will not bring his
wrath upon Israel (Isa. 64:9, 12).
                               b. Israel refused to call upon the name of God (Isa. 64:7).
                       B. This verse does not teach the Calvinistic idea of total depravity.
                               a. This is the verse that all, in the church, who have gone off
into Calvinism quote as their proof text.
                               b. While it is true that we cannot buy or earn our salvation, it
is not true that we have no worth in the eyes of God (Eph. 2:8, 9; Rom. 5:6, 8-9).
               (2) We have sin in our lives and that sin separates us from God (Isa. 59:
1, 2).
                       A. No one can enter into heaven with sin in his/her life ((Rom. 6:
23; Gal. 5:21).
                       B. However, God loves us all and is not willing that any should
perish (2 Pet. 3:9).
       2. God sees good in us and therefore gives us this rest.
               (1) God did not send his son to die on the cross for those who had no
worth in his sight (Jno. 3:16).
                       A. Although Paul had done the terrible things he had done, Jesus
still loved him (1 Tim. 1:13,15; Gal. 2:20).
                       B. Paul wrote that we are to walk in love as Christ loved us (Eph 5:
2).
               (2) If there was no good in us, then Christ would not have loved us.

II. WE ARE PROMISED THIS REST IF WE WILL LIVE AS GOD SAYS TO
LIVE.
       1. There is a rest for the people of God, for those who will live for God (Heb.
4:9-11).
               (1) We are expected to work in the kingdom (Mk. 13:34).
                       A. We are to work together (2 Cor. 6:1).
                       B.  Our works are to be for the perfecting of the saints (Eph. 4:12-
16).
               (2) Our work in the kingdom is not in vain (1 Cor. 15:58).
                       A. God will work the works that he has begun in us until Christ
returns (Phil. 1:6).
                       B. We will be fruitful unto every good work (Col. 1:10).
       2. This rest is heaven, and in heaven—
               (1) There will be no more tears (Rev. 21:4).
               (2) There will be no more temptation (Rev. 20:10).

III. HOW WE MUST LIVE IN ORDER TO RECEIVE THIS REST.
       1. If you are not a Christian, you must—
               (1) Hear the word (Jno. 5:25).
               (2) Believe in Jesus as the Son of God (Jno. 8:24).
               (3) Repent of your sins (Acts 2:38).
               (4) Confess Christ as the Son of God (Acts 8:37).
               (5) Be baptized into Christ for the remission of your sins (Acts 2:38; 22:
16).
       2. When you do those things you won’t have to join anything or be voted in,
you will be added to the church (Acts 2:47).
       3. You must rise to walk a new life (Rom 6:3-5).
       4. We must be fruitful (Jno. 15:1-6).
       5. If you fall, then you must repent and confess (Acts 8:22; 1 Jno. 1:9).

CONCLUSION:
SUMMARY:  We have seen in our lesson—
               1. That we are worthy of the rest that God has promised us.
               2. That we have this promise if we will live as God says to live.
               3. How we are to live in order to obtain this rest.
APPEAL:  Let us all strive to enter into that rest. (offer the invitation).
