| Heb. 2:17 WHAT DID HE DO? SAL-15-07 SUBJECT: Salvation. TITLE: What Did He Do? PROPOSITION: To look and see what Christ did for mankind. OBJECTIVE: So we can better appreciate the unspeakable gift that we have in Christ Jesus. INTRODUCTION: 1. Read the text. 2. Regarding the text. (1) Paul wrote of praising God for his unspeakable gift (2 Cor. 9:15). A. This gift was not the material blessings that were given to the poor saints and to all men (v.13), but was the grace of God (v.14). B. The grace of God was given to men by Jesus Christ (Tit. 2:11). C. This grace is what gave Paul the courage to do more than all the others (2 Cor. 10:15). (2) Salvation was the gift and the gift was given by the grace of God (Rom. 5:15). A. Because he has given us the gift of salvation we don’t have to die in our sins (Rom. 6:23). B. Because we have the gift of salvation we don’t have to worry about death (1 Cor. 15:54-56). (3) We should always be so appreciative of the gift of God. 3. Reference To S.T.P.O. DISCUSSION: WHAT DID HE DO?— I. LISTEN TO OUR WONDROUS STORY. 1. Once we dwelt among the lost. (1) All men have sinned and have come short of the glory of God. When one says that he has not sinned he has deceived himself and makes Christ a liar (Rom. 3: 23; 1 Jno. 1:8,9). (2) Paul told the church at Corinth that at one time they had been sinners (1 Cor. 6:9-11). 2. Yet, Jesus came from heaven’s glory. (1) While in heaven he was part of the Godhead (Jno. 1:1-3,14). (2) He left heaven and came to earth in the form of a servant (Phil. 2:5-8). 3. Saving us at awful cost. (1) We have been bought with a price (1 Cor. 6:19,20; Acts 20:28). (2) That cost was the precious blood of Christ (1 Pet. 1:18,19). II. NO ANGEL COULD HIS PLACE HAVE TAKEN. 1. Highest of the high though he. (1) Only he could come in the form of a man to let God know man’s feelings in temptation (Col. 2:9). (2) He was tempted just like us, yet he was without sin (Heb. 4:15; 1 Jno. 2: 1,2). 2. Nailed to the cross, despised, forsaken. (1) He was crucified on the cross by the hands of lawless men (Acts 2:22- 24). (2) Even his own disciples forsook him in his greatest hour of need (Mk. 14: 50). 3. Was one of the Godhead, three. (1) There are three persons in the Godhead (1 Jno. 5:7). (2) Jesus, being human and divine, hung on the cross for our sins (Col. 1:19- 21). III. WILL YOU SURRENDER TO THIS SAVIOR? 1. Now before him humbly bow. (1) We are to humble ourselves in the sight of the Lord (Jas. 4:10). (2) We are to submit ourselves (Jas. 4:7,8). 2. You, too, shall come to know his favor. (1) His grace is extended to anyone who will come to his invitation (Mt. 11: 28-30). (2) His favor (his grace) has made all who come to him accepted in the beloved (Eph. 1:6). 3. He will save you, save you now. (1) If you will come he will save you (Heb. 7:25). (2) Now is the day of salvation (2 Cor. 6:2). CONCLUSION: SUMMARY: WHAT DID HE DO? 1. O, listen to our wondrous story, once we dwelt among the lost. Yet Jesus came from heaven’s glory, saving us at awful cost. 2. No angel could his place have taken, Highest of the high tho, he. Nailed to the cross, despised forsaken, Was one of the Godhead three. 3. Will you surrender to this savior? Now before him humbly bow. You, too, shall come to know his favor, He will save you, save you now. APPEAL: Who saved us from eternal lost? Who but God’s Son upon the Cross. What did He do? He died for you. Where is He now? Believe it thou in heaven interceding. ***** Mk. 5:19 WILL YOU NOT TELL IT TODAY? EVA-05-07 SUBJECT: Evangelism. TITLE: Will You Not Tell It Today? (1) Our mission is to save souls (Prov. 11:30). (2) We are to go and preach the gospel to every creature (Mk. 16:15,16). III. IF THE SOULS ALL AROUND YOU ARE LIVING IN SIN. 1. If the master has bid you to tell them come in. (1) Those outside of Christ are lost (2 Thess. 1:7-9). (2) We have a command to go and teach all nations (Mt. 28:19-20). 2. If the sweet invitation they never have heard. (1) Cornelius had never heard the gospel, and Peter was chosen to tell him (Acts 10:1-6). (2) The Macedonian call (Acts 16:9,10). 3. O will you not tell them the cheer-bringing word? (1) Isaiah said: “Here am I Lord, send me” (Isa. 6:8). (2) Jeremiah could not refrain from preaching (Jer. 20:9).
