PROPOSITION: We want to look and see the different answers that people will be forced to give in the judgment. OBJECTIVE: So we can see the correct answer that we are to give. INTRODUCTION: 1. Read the text. 2. Regarding the text. (1) No matter who we are, will all appear before the judgment seat of Christ. A. We will all give an answer for how we have lived our lives on this earth. B. Some will give excuses as to why they didn’t become Christians. a. Some will claim that they didn’t have the right opportunity (1 Cor. 6:2). b. Some will claim that they didn’t know what to do (Col. 1:23). C. None of these excuses will work in that day. (2) The only correct answer we can give will be that we have been obedient to the gospel (Gal. 2:20). (3) Now let us look at what answers will be given in that day. 3. Reference To S.T.P.O. DISCUSSION: WHEN YOU STAND BEFORE THE JUDGEMENT SEAT OF CHRIST, WHAT WILL YOUR ANSWER BE? I. I WAS TOO BUSY MAKING A LIVING TO LIVE FOR YOU. 1. The love of money causes many to be lost (1 Tim. 6:9,10). (1) When people put their whole trust in money they put it in something that will perish (Mt. 6:19,20). (2) The parable of the rich farmer (Lk. 12:16-21). 2. Many a family has been made to suffer because parents spent too much time in their career fields and not enough time with the children. (1) Children need fathers and mothers (Eph. 6:1,4). (2) They need to be trained up right (Prov. 22:6). 3. Money is not something that we will be able to use in that day. (1) We cannot take it with us (Lk. 16:19-31). (2) We cannot buy our way into heaven because eternal life is a gift (Rom. 6:23). II. I WAS WAITING FOR THE RIGHT MOMENT TO COME. 1. Felix waited for a more convenient time (Acts 24:24,25). (1) Saul of Tarsus immediately was baptized (Acts 9:11-19). (2) The Ethiopian Eunuch didn’t want to wait one more minute (Acts 8: 36-39). 2. The people of Athens wanted to hear Paul again (Acts 17:32). (1) Some, however, believed and followed Paul (Acts 18:34). (2) The Philippian Jailer was baptized that same hour of the night (Acts 16:32,33). 3. King Agrippa was almost persuaded to be a Christian (Acts 26:24-29). (1) He was almost, but there is no record of him ever becoming a Christian. (2) Many people are almost persuaded, but they don’t make it. III. I DIDN’T FEEL THAT IT WAS NECESSARY TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN. 1. I was a good person. (1) I didn’t drink (Gal. 5:21). (2) I didn’t curse (Ex. 20:7). 2. I did good deeds. (1) Jesus spoke of those who would do good deeds, but still be lost (Mt. 7:21-23). (2) Good deeds will not guarantee anyone a home in heaven (Eph. 2:8,9). 3. What condemns a person, is not the lack of doing good things, or not obeying the gospel. (1) What condemns a person is that everyone has sin in their lives (1 Jno. 1:8-10). (2) Only the blood of Christ can wash away sin and if one does not obey the gospel, then he cannot come into contact with the blood and his/her sins cannot be washed away, and that person cannot go to heaven. CONCLUSION: SUMMARY: When you stand before the throne of Christ, what will your answer be? 1. I was too busy making a living? 2. I was waiting for the right moment? 3. I didn’t really think it was necessary to become a Christian? APPEAL: The only answer that you can give and go to heaven is to obey the gospel and live according to its precepts. Gal. 2:20 TO CHRIST BE TRUE CHL-18-07 SUBJECT: Christian Living. TITLE: To Christ be true. PROPOSITION: To look at ways to be true to Christ. OBJECTIVE: So we can know how we are to be true to him. INTRODUCTION: 1. Read the text. 2. Regarding the text. (1) Even among Christians today there are far too many people who are leaving the one true and living way. A. Jesus said that he was the way, the truth and the life (Jno. 14:6). B. Too many of us are leaving that path to heaven and not being true to our savior. (2) Too many people leave the truth— A. Some go back into worldliness (2 Pet. 2:20-22). B. Some go into denominationalism (2 Jno. 9-11). (3) We need to look at the different ways that we are to be loyal to Christ. 3. Reference To S.T.P.O. DISCUSSION: IN OUR LESSON LET US NOTICE THAT— I. WE ARE TO BE TRUE TO CHRIST IN PURITY. 1. Those who are pure in heart shall see God (Mt. 5:8). (1) We are to have a pure heart (1 Tim. 1:5). (2) We are to call upon the Lord out of a pure heart (2 Tim. 2:22). 2. We are to be sexually pure. (1) We are not to lust after one another (Mt. 5:28). (2) We are not to engage in the works of the flesh (Gal. 5:19-21). 3. We are to be doctrinally pure. (1) We are to only speak as the Bible speaks (1 Pet. 4:11). (2) We are to avoid false teachers (Rom. 16:17,18). II. WE ARE TO BE TRUE TO CHRIST IN OUR SERVICE. 1. We are to bear fruit for him. (1) Those who do not bear fruit will be lost (Jno. 15;1-6). (2) We are to have a fruit unto holiness (Rom. 6:22). 2. We are to be true to him in worship. (1) Worship in spirit and in truth (Jno. 8:32). (2) We are to be faithful in attendance (Heb. 10:26). 3. We are to offer ourselves as living sacrifices (Rom. 12:1-3). (1) We are to be lively stones building up the house of God (1 Pet. 2:5). (2) Our sacrifices are to be acceptable to God (Phil. 4:18). III. WE ARE TO BE TRUE TO CHRIST IN OUR EVERY DAY LIVES. 1. We cannot be hypocritical about how we live. (1) We cannot tell others how to live and not live right (Mt. 7:1-5). (2) If we tell others how to live, we have to live like that (Jas. 1:21-27). 2. Those who are double minded are unstable in all their ways (Jas. 1:8). (1) If we live the way the world wants us to live Monday through Saturday, this will reflect on how we live on Sunday. (2) We cannot live for Christ on one day and then for Satan on the next (2 Cor. 6:14-17). 3. We must be true to Christ in all that we do, every day of our lives. And only then can we be true to Christ. CONCLUSION: SUMMARY: We have seen that in order to be true to Christ— 1. We must be true in purity. 2. We must be true in service. 3. We must be true in our every day lives. APPEAL: To Christ be loyal and be true. Preached at Belle, MO on 08/05/07, evening service. |
